A pioneering and thrilling live band, Afro Celt Sound System return to live action this summer for the first time in five years. Inspired by the link between Irish and African traditions, Afro Celt Sound System was born in 1995 as a collaborative effort of four like-minded souls: vocalist and lyricist Iarla O’Lionaird , producer and guitarist Simon Emmerson , producer and composer James McNally and producer and engineer programmer Martin Russell . Over the years they have formed an ever-changing collaborative group with numerous outstanding guest performers who have taken cross-cultural fusion to dizzying heights.
Capture is a career-spanning album of the band's best work from 1995-2010 is out now on Realworld soon.Afro Celt Sound System Icons of Echoes by RealWorldRecords
Dublin-born Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh supports this concert - regarded by many as the most exciting new talent in Irish traditional music, Caoimhín plays traditional and contemporary folk music on fiddle, 5-string viola and hardanger fiddle.
As a traditional fiddler, he performs duos with dynamic Kerry accordion player Brendan Begley and Dublin uilleann piper Mick O'Brien.
'A niftier mood enhancer than any drug therapy.' Irish Times on Caoimhín's album Kitty Lie Over
