Gwilym Simcock pianoWigmore Hall plays host to a collaboration between German reeds player Klaus Gesing and ubiquitous British pianist Gwilym Simcock. London Jazz has praised Gesing’s skills in “narrating, explaining, floating a melody with ideally focussed saxophone tone”, and his appearance as part of Norma Winstone’s trio at last year’s London Jazz Festival in association with BBC Radio 3 received a five-star review from the Guardian – the concert was one of the hot tickets of the Festival. Young virtuoso Simcock has risen to stardom with improvised compositions that continue to break new ground and impress audiences all over the world.
Part of Brad Mehldau's curatorship at Wigmore Hall. Following the success of the 2009/10 season, Mehldau continues his curatorship in 2011, inviting friends from across the musical spectrum to participate in a variety of duo performances, which will explore the limits of improvisatory and experimental contemporary composition.
