Learning and Participation
Our learning programmes bring professional artists and the wider community together, providing inspiration and fulfilment for everyone involved.
We align our work as music producers and presenters with our commitment to learning and participation at every level. We offer audiences, musicians and staff opportunities to take an active part and to deepen their understanding of the variety of musical styles and cultures we present. Acting on the belief that music is a powerful way to engage with people, we encourage and enable attendance at our events by all sections of the community, including those who are often marginalised or excluded and those who would not normally associate themselves with music and the arts.
Always well thought out and sensitive to the needs of participants and partners, our bespoke learning programmes are a vehicle for self expression and skills development. Our work often addresses wider social issues of empowerment, citizenship and intercultural dialogue, and always offers a high standard of music and service.
We connect with all age groups through our learning programmes, and in particular work with young people in a variety of settings. Music is immensely important in young people’s lives; it helps to shape opinion, express emotion and develop creativity. We encourage active involvement - whether developing an ear for music, honing existing skills or growing as a young creative producer. Our work with young people is often delivered in partnership with music services and within the formal education sector. Recent examples include master class sessions for jazz students at Guildhall School of Music and Drama led by New York based vocalist Gretchen Parlato and Grammy nominated pianist Robert Glasper, and workshops delivered in partnership with THAMES in East London primary and secondary schools led by clarinettist and composer Arun Ghosh.
