Stars of Africa – Celebrating the 50th anniverary of VSO

When celebrating an organisation which is synonymous with both youthful generosity and mature political influence live events need to reflect this variety of moods and richness of talents.

As creative producers Serious has worked closely with VSO on several key events which heightened profile, delivered important messages and raised funds. In 2008 we created a fundraising gala at the Royal Albert Hall, for the organisation’s 50th birthday, showcasing the rich musical traditions of Africa, where VSO started its work 50 years ago.  Hosted by actor and playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah and DJ Rita Ray this event brought together Hugh Masekela, Angelique Kidjo and Bassekou Kouyate in a wonderful triple bill. The event sold out weeks in advance and far exceeded VSO’s fundraising targets.
